The Happy Chomper Family
Our staff are dedicated professionals, who are committed to providing patients with high quality dental care in a happy, caring and supportive environment. We have a team of Dentists and Oral Health Therapists to make sure we are able to provide the highest quality dentistry and the best patient experience.
Dr Chris Thorne
Chris joined the Mount Barker Dental Centre in 2009. He has a keen interest in all aspects of dentistry, and especially enjoys the relationships that are built up with patients over time. He is a strong believer that good teeth are a vital factor in a healthy life. He is a member of the Adelaide Seattle Study Club, an international organisation that focuses on ‘state of the art’ continuing professional development for dental practitioners. Indeed Chris is always looking at further professional development, which he feels is vitally important in dentistry due to the constant changes in both materials and techniques. Outside of dentistry Chris fills his spare time tinkering with old cars.
Dr Hannah Korhonen-Bannister
Hannah joined the Mount Barker Dental Centre in October 2017, when she moved back to Adelaide to be closer to her family. Prior to joining our Happy Chomper team Hannah worked in private practice in the Perth metropolitan area, after graduating from the University of Western Australia. Hannah grew up in Mylor and went to high school at St John’s Grammar in Belair.
Hannah especially enjoys restorative and aesthetic treatments and working with children. She places particular importance on helping her nervous patients feel comfortable and educating all her patients about techniques to maintain a healthy smile.
Hannah regularly attends study groups and courses to stay at the forefront of the latest developments in dental treatment. Outside of work, she enjoys cooking new meals in the kitchen and pursuing her equestrian hobbies.
Dr Monica Biondo
Monica joined our team at Mount Barker Dental Centre in January 2018. She enjoys all aspects of dentistry; in particular, she welcomes any emergency patient as she thinks there is nothing more satisfying than relieving a patient in pain.
Monica is originally from Melbourne, but decided to move to Adelaide to pursue her goal of studying dentistry at one of the country’s top dental schools. She now knows South Australia reasonably well, having worked in rural clinics in both Berri and Port Lincoln.
Outside of dentistry, Monica enjoys leisurely bike rides and curling up with a good book. When she can, she enjoys flying back to Melbourne to visit her family – always returning claiming to be a few kilos heavier thanks to their home cooked Italian feasts!
Dr Anthony Ma
Anthony became a part of our team in August 2018. Though originally a Melbournian, he is now happy to call Adelaide home. He enjoys the wine country, the laid back atmosphere and scenic locations of South Australia.
Anthony has had experience working for the SA Dental Service and has also volunteered with the Royal Flying Doctor Serbice and Around Good People to provide much needed dental care to those less fortunate.
He is truly passionate about dentistry; striving to help people achieve good oral health and to create positive dental experiences for all. He also has a keen interest in the cosmetic aspects of dentistry and loves seeing patients happy with their smiles.
When he’s not busy dentist-ing, Anthony is an avid gamer, loves to snowboard, and tries to hit the gym (when he remembers … and can be bothered … which is not often – but it’s the thought that counts?!).
Oral Health Therapist
Edwina has been part of the Happy Chomper team since 2014. Edwina’s focus is on the prevention of oral diseases. She hopes to make visiting the dental clinic a positive experience for people of all ages and loves helping anxious patients overcome their fears. As the head of our hygiene department she also has a special skill set in providing dental treatment to children, and has quite the collection of funky glasses for you to choose from during your visit. In 2018 she completed training to extend her scope of practice through the University of Sydney.
Growing up north of Coober Pedy, her family moved to the Adelaide Hills during her schooling. Having recently built a house in Nairne, Edwina has decided to stay local to the area after fleeing the family farm and can often be spotted enjoying a coffee (sugar free, of course) on the weekend. In her free time Edwina tries to improve her green thumb, enjoys the outdoors and is a keen baker. She has a black Labrador called Dot, who also enjoys having her teeth checked!
Oral Health Therapist
Studying at the University of Adelaide Bianca was the recipient of multiple academic and clinical awards, while gaining experience with children, the elderly, special needs patients and homeless clients. In 2017 she flew with the Royal Flying Doctors Service to deliver oral health care to remote patients in the states far northeast. She joined our team after her travels in 2017 and has been with us ever since graduating.
She is passionate about dental education and enjoys working with patients to encourage healthy oral hygiene habits. Creating a positive and stress-free dental experience through gentle care is very important to her. In her free time, you can find Bianca spending time with her rescued dog ‘Orlando’, going to Barre (ballet, Pilates and yoga!) and gardening.
Our dental assistants and reception staff
Our dental assistants and reception staff are also a very important part of our team. These staff are skilled in all facets of patient care including assisting our dentists and oral health therapists, managing appointments, instrument sterilisation, infection control, maintaining equipment and managing dental supplies. Most importantly each and every one of them is genuinely committed to caring for our patients and contributing to a happy environment!
